Safety Chain Interference Installation Guide

Some trailers seem to favor placing the trailer tongue connections for the safety chains to either side of the coupler, along the bottom of the frame.  Interstate Trailers have at least one model that matches this positioning for the safety chains.  Because these links protrude to the side, they often conflict with proper movement of the spring arms, and this can lead to damage to your Equal-i-zer® hitch or to the trailer tongue.  Possible solutions to this are purchasing a lift-ball that will increase the distance between the hitch-head and the loops for the chains.  This will require re-adjustment of your hitch.

You may be able to relocate the connection point of the chains.  Check with your manufacturer prior to making changes to the trailer, as this may void your warranty.
