How to Choose the Right Shank for Your Equal-i-zer Hitch

One of the most important things you can do to protect your family and equipment when towing is to set up your Equal-i-zer® hitch correctly. A critical component of this is choosing the right shank for your truck and trailer.

The right shank makes weight distribution set up a snap, hitching up or unhitching a breeze, and goes a long way in protecting your equipment from damage and unnecessary wear.

Watch our new video where Dave shows you how to quickly gather the information you need to get the right shank, and use this handy tool on our website to help you get the right size shank for your setup.

You will need:

  • The trailer parked on a flat surface, and parallel to the ground.
  • The height of your hitch ball.
  • The height of your receiver opening from the ground, and receiver size (2' or 2-1/2").
  • The height of your trailer's coupler.
  • To know whether you need an extended length shank.
  • Which hitch model you will be using.
